Someone called me a “libtard” for this post lmao. Apprently just being a decent person and acknowledging the struggles of Albanian women, LGBT Albanians, miced Albanians, muslim Albanians, and mentally ill Albanians makes you a “libtard” in their eyes.

As if the Albanian society isn’t a patriarchal society with rampant misogyny and women are not suffering and being killed. As if all the homophobia and transphobia doesn’t damage LGBT Albanians in horrifying ways. As if being an Albanian with mental illness is not absolute hell. As if Albanians weren’t killed and forced to flee for being muslim and told they don’t belong in Europe. As if mixed Albanians don’t face so much racist bullshit.

Give me an example of Greek iso-polyphony as beautiful as the Albanian one, give me an example of Greek dances as beautiful as the South Albanian ones, and I might start to consider that Albanians and Greeks have the same cultures and that we “took it from Greeks”. But you won’t. You never will. Southern Albanians are born singers and dancers and nothing compares to their culture.

This is a bit outside the theme of this blog but I want to point out that if you want to understand how Ancient Greece really was you just need to look at Modern Greek cause in many ways it hasn’t actually changed at all.
You see Greece today being an actually quite heterogeneous country in many ways except for religion which it uses to paint itself as an almost entirely homogeneous country (far from the truth). Ancient Greece was very much like that. It’s goal was to spread the Greek civilization to the “barbarians”.
The Ancient Greek mythology, culture and civilization were actually very influenced by the people they colonized and anybody who is not biased will tell you that. In the very same way the so called “Greek culture” in modern times is a mix of different cultures and people allegedly united on the basis of a shared religion.
What is considered “Greek identity” today is entirely based on religion and the Greek language that started as a sort of lingua franca, that already was or became an official language and like that with time it became the native language of all these people. Therefore it’s absurd for anyone to claim that Modern Greeks or Ancient Greeks were ever homogeneous or shared a common origin. That’s very improbable and despite was some people may think there is no evidence to suggest that and plenty to suggest the opposite.
